This happens to be my 50th post. O Yeah after so long my blog has reached that number. Lazy me! Anyway coming up to the latest news on books. Today's hit list under Upcoming Novels includes 'The India I Dream of...and the Facebook Revolution Begins!!' by Vikrant Khanna. Yes, he is the same handsome Merchant Navy guy whose first book 'When Life Tricked me' made way to the Bestsellers. He is up with his new book and what else could girls ask for :P and the other readers too :D Why am I turning nastier day by day? Book Review: You Never Know When You'll Get Lucky by Priya Narendra

At last I finally got the book, I had been longing to have. Something within me was longing to pick this book up but the long list of reviews made the task cumbersome. But then I did what my hearts said, I left all the books that were to be reviewed  in the mid way and picked up a typical girlie book. This is one sweet chocolaty book that every girl will be able to relate to.

What the book says: When Kajal, a sassy never-afraid-to-make-an-idiot-of-herself-in-public copywriter, finally decides to put her love-life on hold and focus on that long-overdue promotion, fate mysteriously throws her way a stream of eligible bachelors: from Mr Could-Be-Right who lives in another city, to a reputed lech of a neighbor who becomes her knight in shining armour, from a hunky researcher intent on proposing, to a childhood-nemesis-turned-amorous-pursuer.

Add to the mess a client who is a pain in the ass, a crucial ad campaign for a brand of condoms, disapproving middle-class parents and, to top it all, the most romantic rainstorm of the decade and Kajal seems to be no longer in control of anything!

But luck has its own sweet way of dealing with troubles. After all, you never know when you’ll get lucky!

A glimpse at the story line: Kajal is just another sassy Delhi girl who has a list of boyfriends and is very independent. She finally decides to get herself the promotion she should have got long time back. She begins to work super hard but you really never know when you'll get lucky and she finally lands up with the man she had been searching for all this while. Characters like Debu, Kajal's neighbour; Junaki, Kajal's colleague, friend and Shonali, Kajal's friend and Debu's crush make the book make the book quite lively.

And is haunted by a water curse!

My View: I loved its beginning. The first chapter is simply amazing and the book has a fresh feel throughout. And mind you the ending is as amazing as the beginning. Kajal's client Mishraji is simply hilarious. I loved the way he said 'Kyu na ispe chorri chod dein'.. had me rolling with laughter. Ah! The way she leads her life and maintains stuff makes you almost say in the middle, 'Oh! She is just like me.' The cover is good though we are finally piled up with books of stilettos cover pages. I don't know why I am still attracted to such kind of cover pages. I especially loved at hearts made at the page numbers. And this book tells us the importance of presentation very well.The book is entertaining throughout and gives you the outlook of a modern contemporary woman. The way she handles stuff and her job can almost be pictured i your mind because of the great narration. It takes you to the crazy world of advertising where you have to deal with all kinds of clients who eat up your head enough to punch them hard in the nose and you still be polite while talking to them discussing the intricacies of the projects. Overall a lovable read. Now that's what I call a good chic lit. Yes, before your heads turn and stare at me. I loved the ride on this chic lit and before signing off for the day I would like to clear a simple misconception that many may have. According to Wiki, Chick lit is genre fiction which addresses issues of modern womanhood, often humorously and lightheartedly. So the next time someone titles a campus romance as chic lit, ask him/her to read this

Verdict: A light hearted read that every girl can relate to.

Is death the final revenge?

Today's newspaper talked about how a 24 year old cop, Vijay Kumar avenged his sister's death by shooting down his brother-in-law and his demised sister's MIL. In case you haven't read the news, you can read it here.

But the question is has his sister's death been avenged by this? Vijay was surely a brave man to do this act. His deed has made him a gem of brother in the news but couldn't the ending be better if proper justice had been given at the proper time? Vijay's sister had committed sister nine years back when he was just 15 due to dowry harassment by her in laws. The fire of revenge had been raging in him since then. He grew up to be the VIP Security Cell Constable but denied  justice took away the life of three and leaving behind a widow and two fatherless kids. After the death of Vijay's sister, His brother-in-law had remarried and had two kids from her.
There are so many dowry cases that come in the news and some get wrapped up in the bags of money and bribery. If our society becomes more alert towards issues like these, a few families can be saved from brunt of this social evil. This is not just a case of revenge, this is about what impression does an incident like this makes on a teenager. He was just 15 when he was snatched away from his sister. Will her sister's soul rest in peace after this? Will she feel good that she has been the cause of her brother's death? And what about his parents and family? Would the parents be able to live properly after losing their two children in such a tragic incident? Will our law ever learn the dignity it should possess?

My Take:

My last shopping was pretty satisfying( You may read about it here). And my second shopping has been pleasurable as well. I received a confirmation mail and call from them as soon as I placed my order.Just like last time, my order got delivered before 24 hours. But surprisingly there was an extra COD of 39 INR. On talking to the customer care, I got to know there were few items under which there were extra COD charges as they were fragile in nature. The bubble wrapping was quite strong and it was stated on the package that we need not accept the package if the seal is broken. Believe me, the piece is so beautiful that I am slmost tempted to get one more for myself.

The book seems quite interesting whether it's the title or the blurb. There aren't much love stories of army people so it will be a good change from the campus love stories that have been doing the rounds of the book market. The cover page is quite attractive and creative with the girl as the shadow and the guitar and gun on the Captain's shoulder. I am going in for this romantic comedy, what are you waiting for?

I saw this book for the first time when I went to Mahaveer Publisher's office on the 1st of this month and since then the cover page and the title had been intriguing enough to order my copy. It is often said 'Don't judge the book by its cover' but the cover page is truly attractive and it does account for the sales of the book.

My View: The blurb of the book talks about two best friends falling for the same gal but this comes quite at the end. The protagonist Jai Singh is shown to have fallen for Mahi all the while but the confrontation part comes in the end. There are subtle hints but the suspense is on. But this is book is not just about this. It has a lot more. It talks about family bonds which we rarely get to see nowadays, a bro-bro relationship, a bro-sis bond, a parent-kid bond, a brother in law sis in law bond, it has every relation that we have in life but hardly find time to express. The book gives a fresh feel even though it talks about college life, a group of friends, two guys and two gals, their journey of three years in college. How the guy falls for the wrong gal all three years when she is already robbed in by his best friend is something to watch out for. And an amazing moral for every boy who wishes to propose a girl, 'Never wait for the perfect time, jst cash in the time you have and that is NOW for its now or never'. I especially loved reading Page 132 and 133, a few things many families forget in the long run. Overall a light hearted novel that gives you quite a number of lessons of life with a balanced amount of dosage of romance. Though I wish the ending could have been better but then yes it wasn't that bad either Jai had finally got to know what was required out of him. And the best part while reading the book is you don't feel that the book was actually written when the author was 13 and got published when he was 15. Kudos to writer for the amazing work. Ah! And yes I did find some typos but didn't stop the flow anyway.

Verdict: Deserves to be read by every youngster.

Ques: How did writing come into existence in your life?

Novoneel - From the time I was 19-20 years of age, characters and plots started happening in my mind which kept haunting me till I penned them down. I guess writing happened as an eventuality. I did it because I enjoyed ‘thinking’ a lot and it was only when I penned a particular set of thoughts that I felt ready to think more.

Ques: You started off with ‘A thing beyond forever’ and now you it’s ‘How about a sin tonight’. How has the journey as a writer been so far?

Novoneel- As I said writing for me happened as a by-product to my obsessive act of ‘thinking’. Now, I feel home with writing. To cut a long story short, if it wasn’t for writing I wouldn’t have discovered anything about myself.  I would have lived a pre-historic life in a modern world where I would have first honed my skills at something that would fetch me food and do so for the rest of my life and thereby celebrate an ignorable existence which I have a problem with.

Ques: How did you come up with the title of your latest novel?

Novoneel - The phrase ‘How About A Sin Tonight?’ comes forth as a dialogue in the book at a point which is personally very special to me. I liked the sound of the title and also it went with the overall tone of the book. Hence I stuck with it.

Ques: Tell us something about your book ‘How about a Sin tonight’.

Novoneel  - ‘How About A Sin Tonight?’ is my first character driven novel. It depicts the journey of five different people, their realizations, their flaws, their vulnerability and their choices with the milieu being the Hindi Film Industry.

Ques: Is there any message you would like to give through your novel?

Novoneel - I strongly, and personally, believe ‘message’ is something a reader picks up and not a writer intentionally writes about. My writing is more inclined towards revealing aspects of the human behaviour when in a relationship. The action-reaction of characters is what intrigues me as a storyteller and in the end, I believe, it’s an important ingredient to make a memorable story.

Ques: Out of the five characters, whose character was the most difficult to write about?

Novoneel - It wasn’t difficult to write about any characters since I spent a good six to seven months trying to understand them in my mind before I started writing about them. What was difficult was how to make each character different from the other. One of the major challenges for a writer in a multiple-character driven novel is how well he can suppress his personal prejudice and let the characters’ uniqueness come to the surface.

Ques: You seem to be having an excellent command over ‘dastangoi’ which perhaps is explained by your books being National Bestsellers. What is the secret recipe behind the same?

Novoneel  - A bestseller is about quantity whereas good storytelling is about quality. There’s no secret recipe. I personally believe success in creative endeavours is always a fluke because no one can predict the reaction of the readers at large. You can give them what you know they have been reading and hope they’ll lap it up because they have been doing so or else give them something very different, if you are an adventurous storyteller like I’m, and hope they appreciate your work.  Hope is the key word in both the cases.

Ques: ‘That kiss in the Rain’ has been one of the most beautiful literature of today’s times, the character of ‘Pallavi’ being the most intriguing one. How did the idea about the book came in your mind?

Novoneel  - The characters of Pallavi, Swadha and Haasil came to me first. I wanted to write a story about these three characters. The plot happened as I started to write. Pallavi, in essence, is an anti-thesis to the protagonist of my first novel, Radhika. With her I wanted to explore areas which I wasn’t able to do with Radhika in ‘A Thing Beyond Forever’.

Ques: When you came up with ‘ A thing beyond Forever’ , did you know writing would become an inseparable part of your life?

Book Review: I'm Heartless By Vinit.K.Bansal

Finally after ages, I have finally picked up the book that every person from the literary fraternity has read and reviewed. The book has also got the National Bestseller tag and now the lazy me finally woke up to read a book that everyone is talking about. Come to think of it, I have even interviewed the author and attended the book launch of Hindi translation of the book but haven't read it. Shame on me! Let's get back to the review or else I will keep jabbering away.

Story In Short:

The books talks about a boy Viren who starts off his Post graduate studies at Kurukshetra University and gets to meet Rashi, his best friend Manasi's best friend. Viren happens to fall for Rashi whom he lovingly calls Pari while Manasi is already head over heels for Viren. Viren knows about Manasi's feelings but doesn't reciprocate and keeps on waiting for his Pari to accept him. Pari always finds a good friend in Viren and that's all. Hell breaks lose once Rashi gets committed to Pratap and Viren begins to feel that there's nothing called as love. In the meanwhile he gets involved with Manasi who loves him deeply even though Viren doesn't take her seriously. She eventually comes to know about the truth and leaves him. The protagonist realizes his mistake but till then it's too late.

My View:

I picked up the book with high expectations expecting it to be fabulous. Though the book didn't let me down but it isn't that great even. The first half of the story literally drags, it's a simple narration of college life, college crushes, how a young man waits for his love to be reciprocated and ignores the girl who loves him, changing mindsets, etc. It's the second part when the story picks up the flow. The change in the protagonist, Viren's ideologies about love is what brings a turning point in the story. When he sees a girl playing with his feelings, he loses trust in love and relationships and begins to play around with the only girl who loves him selflessly. He asks her to leave her place and pursue some course so that they can meet up. Amazingly the girl sacrifices her studies for her love. He doesn't let her work and shouts at her in public. His outrageous and totally absurd anger is what she accepts and bears without a word. When you read this portion you seriously feel like shouting on Viren just the way Sonu and Rashi do. Manasi gets to know his true intentions through Rashi and leaves him forever. He does realize his mistake but you can't cry over spilled milk. I had heard there are some grammatical errors but I guess since I have picked up the book after so long they have been corrected in the subsequent editions. I did find 2-3 printing mistakes here and there but that is where mistakes ended. I personally liked the last chapter, My Confession. The language in the last few chapters seemed to be the best compared to the whole book. Feelings have been expressed in quite a good manner. In the book it is mentioned that Viren wrote poems in remembrance of their love but we don't get to see any of them. It would have given a better look to the book if there had been a poem in the end. 

My Rating: 3.4/5

The occasion was graced by Mr. Keshav Malik( Indian Poet and Art Critic), Chief Guest, Mr. Jai Zharotia(one of the finest artist of the nation), Guest of Honour and Aparshakti Khurana(RJ of OYE FM 104.8 Radio Station New Delhi).
According to the author, it took five years to complete her novel with full dedication and commitment. Through her book she wants to convey the existence and power of the Supreme Almighty who shall be there to guide you through very hindrance and hardships you go through.

We all reach a stage in life when we find life very trying and tough due to the overload of suffering, sorrow, tension and worry that we have to face and when we cannot find answers to our puzzling thoughts and questions.

Every sorrow, every problem makes us weak and disheartened, making us cry out for help and support. And ultimately when nothing works out, we tend to give up in frustration! We lose every hope of improving our life and forsake all our efforts and even our dreams out of frustration and disappointment. But then, how does it affect the world around us? Not even a wee bit because each one of us has to carry our own cross, whether we like it or not.

There is, however, someone who still cares for us, who can help, guide and even transform our life provided we entrust our faith and trust in Him. He alone can help us! He is the Supreme Being; the Supreme Power who reveals His power to us by disclosing His treasures of bliss and virtues. He is the reality of our life. Make Him a part of your life, know Him, learn from Him and grow with Him. He eagerly extends His hand to welcome you, guide you and stay with you on the long and arduous journey of life. All you have to do is take a step towards Him and He will take manifold steps towards you to make your life one of happiness and contentment.

Jyotsna Gandhi was born and brought up in Delhi. Being a daughter of an artist father and a spiritually inclined mother, Jyotsna always has been very keen towards art, culture and spirituality. She did her graduation in Philosophy (hons.) from one of the finest institutions, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi. After completing her Masters in Sociology she is still aspiring for her doctorate studies. She loves to study and feels there is no end to knowledge. Her simple and humble nature makes her amiable among everyone. Her hobbies are writing, playing with her kid, listening to music and practising meditation.
